Current Weather Observations

Weather observations are available on the Internet from thousands of locations across the globe. The bulk of these observations come from the national weather service organizations around the world but there are also a number of unofficial sources of current weather observations. This page allows you to retrieve information from three sources: CASI Members' Weather Observations, Official (NWS) World Observations on the Internet, and Alternate Weather Observations on the Internet.

1. CASI Members' Observations

CASI Members Live Auto Weather Stations On The Web

These Live Weather Stations are Automated stations, please check with the Member's WWW Page regarding accuracy. The NWS Temp is the latest temperature via the Weather Underground's NWS Database, updated hourly. This will likely not match the Member's Observation because of the sparseness of NWS stations, which can be dozens of miles away from the Member. However, this is also an illustration of how important non-official Live Weather Stations are on the Internet, as conditions can change rapidly with geography.Click on Details to see additional information, dials, and graphs from the CASI Members' stations.

CASI Members Live Manual Weather Observations

Like any good weather observer, our Members enjoy augmenting their Automated weather stations with actual observations noting current weather. These are sometimes in the official METAR format but are sometimes in their own format. Links to these are below.

CASI Members' Live Weather Observations Through PSU

Because the CASI site is a good ways away from creating a large interactive database for User Observations, we suggest the use of the excellent PSU Observations Database. This database allows Internet users to post their manual observations of current conditions. Not only can you post and view User Observations from any State in the US or Country inthe World, but you can view these plotted on maps! See here for more information on this program. See also "Alternate Weather Observations" below for more information on Non-CASI postings to the PSU database. Clicking on "Map/Current" below will bring up a combination METAR (white) and User Obs (blue) map for the state.

During the 1990's a revolution started taking place by which the gaps in between official weather reporting stations across the US began to be filled by amateur electronic weather stations which could upload to the Internet through special software. CASI is attempting to document this revolution by keeping track of all of these weather stations.
