Severe Weather Reports From Wednesday:
(As a Result of Tropical Rainstorm Fay)
 
-A tornado destroyed a large barn and downed several trees and a 
basketball goal near Fremont, N.C. 
-A tornado leveled an outbuilding near Randleman, N.C. The twister 
also downed numerous trees and power lines and blew shingles off a 
roof.                              
-Strong thunderstorm winds downed several trees near Siler City, N.C. 
Flood waters also covered streets. 
-A pond's dam failed north of Durham, N.C., resulting in extensive 
flooding in the Eden Lake Subdivision. Nearby, the Cabin Creek flowed 
well out of its banks. The creek is normally 2 to 3 feet wide, but 
was as wide as 150 feet on Wednesday. The resultant flood waters put 
U.S. Highway 501 under water.      
-Numerous roads became flooded and closed in and around the Sanford, 
N.C., area and Durham County.      
-Flooding forced officials to close several roads in Danville, Va. 
The city shattered its previous daily rainfall record of 1.46 inches 
from 1960 with 5.84 inches.        
-With 3.01 inches, Wilmington, N.C., broke its old daily rainfall 
record of 2.49 inches from 1881.

-Strong thunderstorm winds downed three wood utility poles on State 
Route 80 in St. David, Ariz.       
-Heavy rain falling at a rate of 1.5 inches per hour filled washes 
with water near Apache Junction, Ariz. A vehicle was swept away 
attempting to drive through one of these flooded washes.
-Quarter-sized hail pounded an area east of Worthing, S.D.
-A thunderstorm dropped nickel-sized hail on an area near Rochester, 
Minn.                              
-Nickel-sized hail slammed Pender, Neb.
